Summary in English

Disability is portrayed in several Bollywood and foreign movies. Dr. Lomesh has identified a few them for her empirical study. My left foot, Rust and Bone, Turtles can fly, sea inside, The Brooke Elpis Story and The Intouchabl are discussed at length in this paper. She has analyzed these film, parallel to Bollywood movies for the sake clarity and wider insight. How the social psyche and individual mindset have changed due to the impact of these movies are the key issues raised in this reasearch article.

                                             

दिव्यांग होना अभिशाप नहीं. जीवन यात्रा जो समान्य लोगों के लिए सहज प्रवाह है वही शारीरिक अक्षमताओं से युक्त दिव्यांग लोगों के लिए ऐसा पीड़ादायक अनुभव है जो अनेक कष्टों और चुनौतियों से भरपूर हैं.सामान्यतः इसका अहसास वे लोग नहीं कर पाते हैं जो अपने निकट जीवन में इससे न जुड़े हों . स्वयं को मुख्यधारा में न ला पाने की बेबसी, समाज से मिलने वाली उपेक्षा, सरकारी सहायता का अभाव और सगे-संबंधियों/पारिवारिक उदासीनता के चलते दिव्यांग होना उनकी प्रतिभा शक्ति को क्षीण करने में अग्रसार रहता है. प्रतिभा जन्मजात होती है .शारीरिक अक्षमताएँ, दुर्बलताएँ ,प्रबल इच्छा शक्ति और दृढ़ विश्वास के आगे नतमस्तक हो जाती हैं – मानव जाति के इतिहास से आज तक, हम जब चाहें इसके साक्ष्य उपलब्ध करा सकते हैं.

^{GENDER discourses in movies, as a part of analysis and study, picked momentum with the rise of feminist movement. Rashmi Sharma in this article has taken two references viz. gender and disability in context of Hindi movies. It is a portrayal study of      disabled women in cinema which also reflects the social psyche and mindset of North Indian society towards these differently abled women. The obvious purpose of this paper seems to sensetize the reader and bring overall change in their outlook towards disabled persons, particularly females. Citation of several films, in the paper, shows the grim psychological and mental condition faced by women due their disability.}                                                          

 भारतीय समाज में किसी कारण से परिस्थितिवश जो जन शारीरिक, मानसिक ,बौद्धिक स्तर पर कमजोर होते हैं, किसी दुर्घटना में उनका  कोई अंग भंग हो गया हो ,या अंगों का सम्पूर्ण विकास नहीं हो पाया हो तो ऐसे समाज को एक ही नाम से जाना जाता था अपंग ,अपाहिज ,या विकलांग . वर्तमान में ऐसे जन समुदाय को दिव्यांग नाम से परिभाषित किया गया है . ये वे लोग हैं ,जो समाज को अपनी इस सच्चाई से रूबरू कराते हैं कि शारीरिक रूप से क्षीण होने पर भी हम सामान्य व्यक्तियों से किसी भी प्रकार से कमजोर नहीं हैं . आत्मविश्वास से भरपूर ,कुछ कर गुजरने की चाह ,लगन ,परिश्रम अपनी दृढ़ इच्छा शक्ति से, न केवल  इन पुरुषों ने , बल्कि महिलाओं ने भी अपने लिए एक मुकाम हासिल करने के लिए कड़ी मेहनत और हिम्मत दिखाई है.

Portryal of disability in cinema and other art forms is a common feature. However studies regarding these are rare. ‘Black’ a Hindi film has a theme to depict the empowerment of handicapped persons. This is a good piece to study and sensitize the society about the abilities and challenges of the disabled. Dr. Asha has explored the diffrent dimensions of these aspects through her analysis which breaks our stereotype mindset towards the disabled community. Finally she opines that disable people are an asset not a burden for our society.

   

भारतीय समाज में दिव्यांगता को ‘चैरिटी’ से जोड़कर देखने की परम्परा रही है. यहाँ सामान्यतः विकलांगता ऐसी दिमागी अवधारणा बना दी गयी है जिसके तहत व्यक्ति विशेष को अक्षम मानते हुए उसके प्रति दया का भाव रखा जाने लगता है. इस प्रकार की बंधी हुई मानसिकता से दिव्यांगों और समाज का भी कुछ भला नहीं होने वाला है. भारत में प्रचलित विभिन्न मुहावरों में प्रयुक्त विकलांगों से सम्बंधित शब्द, विकलांगों के प्रति समाज की उस मानसिकता की ओर संकेत करते हैं जिसमें उनकी विकलांगता को हँसी और व्यंग्य का पात्र और परिवार पर एक प्रकार का ‘बोझ’ माना जाता है. दिव्यांगों के प्रति समाज की इस रूढ़ मानसिकता को स्वस्थ सोच में बदलने के लिए ठोस कदम उठाने की जरूरत है.

Summary in English 

The Research Paper entitled “NAVJAGRAN KAAL KA STRI SWAR” aims to investigate the contributions of renaissance movements in Indian Society. This work gives a brief account of the position of women in early Indian society and the role played by social reformers for socio- economic development of women through various movements. The work highlights the particular efforts of Brahmasamaj, Arya Samaj, Theosophical Society, Ramakrishna Mission and Prarthana Samaj and different renowned Reformer's noble piece of work in bringing up women into the vanguard of Indian society.

 भारत में नवजागरण को हम बड़े परिवर्तन के रूप में देखते हैं ।19वीं सदी की शुरुआत से दस्तक शुरु हो जाती है । वैसे  यह सामाजिक बुनियादी परिवर्तनों के शुरुआती  संदर्भ में लिया जाता है लेकिन एक मुख्य बात जो राष्ट्रीय नव जागरण के संदर्भ में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बन जाती है वह है स्त्री सवाल । स्त्री को मुख्य सामाजिक सवालों के केन्द्र में लाया जाता है ।  सबसे बड़ी बात थी कि इस नवजागरण काल में  स्त्रियों की स्थिति सुधारने के लिए आंदोलनों की शुरुआत हुई |आधुनिक शिक्षा या पश्चिमी संस्कृति के प्रभाव  के कारण समाज सुधारकों  का ध्यान स्त्रियो की सामाजिक दशा की तरफ जाने लगा ।ऐसा बिल्कुल भी नहीं था कि आधुनिक काल अपने स्त्री के प्रति सारे पूर्वाग्रहों और दुराग्रह को छोड़ चुका था | सामाजिक कुरीतियों का विरोध और स्त्री शिक्षा को लेकर कानून बनना ऊपरी तौर पर नवजागरण आंदोलन का स्त्री मुक्ति का चेहरा तो दिखाता है लेकिन  अगर गहराई से देखें तो थोड़े बहुत परिवर्तनों के साथ स्त्री उसी जगह पर स्थापित थी |फिर भी प्रयास काफी किया गया कि स्त्रियों की स्थितियां सुधरे।
